Anniversary & Engagement Session FAQs

Planning your engagement or anniversary session should be exciting—not stressful. Whether you're celebrating a recent proposal or years of marriage, I've answered some of the most common questions below to help you feel prepared and confident before your session. I photograph engagement and anniversary sessions throughout Central Texas, including Elgin, Bastrop, Georgetown, Lexington, Giddings, Taylor, and surrounding communities.

What kinds of anniversary & engagement sessions do you offer?

I offer photography services in the Central Texas area for the proposal, the engagement sessions after you have the ring and all the anniversary milestones after the wedding.

Are you planning on proposing? I bet your partner would LOVE to have this moment captured on camera. Let me know when you have the ring picked out and we will make a plan so that I can be there (in stealth mode) to capture the moment you drop down on one knee!

Have you already been proposed to?! Let’s celebrate with an engagement session. This is a great way to be able to plan your outfits, hair and makeup and location so that you can use these images for your save the date photos, wedding invitations and photos for decorating around your wedding. Think of it like a practice round for your wedding photos!

Already married and have a milestone anniversary coming up? I offer those services too. Whether it’s 5 years, 10 years or 50 years, I’ve captured it all over my career and I would love capture your anniversary as well.

How long should I reach out before I plan on proposing?

If you are planning on proposing and you want to have it photographed, the earlier the better. I have photographed proposals on a week notice, but typically as soon as you start ring shopping, let’s start talking about scheduling your session.

This gives us time to plan a date and time that works the best for the both of us, find a location if you don’t already have one in mind and make a plan on how you’ll propose and how I’ll get the shots. The more time we have to plan, the better!

What time of day is best for anniversary and engagement photos?

In Central Texas, the best time to photograph your anniversary or engagement photos is during golden hour. The Texas sun is HOT and bright, but golden hour is that last hour of sunlight for the day, before the sunsets. This is a much softer light, it doesn’t create those harsh shadows and it starts cooling off for the day a bit.

We're engaged! When should we schedule our engagement session?

Most couples schedule their engagement session 6–12 months before their wedding, but there's no wrong time. If you're using the photos for save-the-dates, invitations, or your wedding website, plan to have your session at least 2-3 months before you'll need the images.

My typically gallery turn around time for engagement sessions is 2 weeks max.

What should we wear for our engagement photos?

Coordinate your outfits rather than matching exactly. Neutral colors, soft textures, and timeless styles photograph beautifully. I always recommend avoiding large logos and overly busy patterns so the focus stays on the two of you. You can see some examples in my portfolio from other couple’s sessions.

Can we bring our dog?

Absolutely! Pets are welcome as long as the location allows them. They're part of your family too, and they can make your session even more personal.

Can we use our engagement photos for save-the-dates?

Absolutely! Engagement photos are perfect for save-the-dates, wedding websites, guest books, invitations, and wedding décor.

What should we bring to our engagement or anniversary session?

Most importantly to bring your engagement session is the ring! Some other props that are nice to have are blankets for laying in the field, champagne for toasting, flowers, your dog, the ring box, meaningful heirlooms, or even a vintage car or truck! While I have many of these items, you are always welcome to bring sentimental ones of your own.

We aren't engaged—we just want photos together. Can we still book a couples session?

Absolutely! You don't need a proposal, wedding, or anniversary to celebrate your relationship. Whether you're dating, newly engaged, celebrating a milestone, or simply want beautiful photos together, I'd love to capture this season of your story.

Where should we take our engagement photos?

The best location is somewhere meaningful to your relationship or a place that matches your style. Whether it's a downtown setting, a scenic field out at my ranch in Lexington, Texas, or somewhere you had your first date, I'll help you choose the perfect location!

Can we include multiple outfits?

Yes! Depending on your session length, one outfit change is often possible and can give your gallery a variety of looks.

I offer 2 packages- a 30 minute session and a 1 hour session. With just 2 people in your anniversary or engagement photos, this is enough time to do an outfit change.

With a 1 hour session, we can do an outfit change and a location change that is close by. Typically with my clients I will photograph them in the grassy field with a more casual outfit, and at my conservatory in a more formal outfit for 2 different looks.

Can we recreate our wedding photos?

Yes! Recreating favorite wedding portraits or revisiting your wedding venue can make for an especially meaningful anniversary session.

We've never had professional photos taken. Will you help us pose?

Absolutely! Most couples tell me they're nervous at first. I'll guide you through natural prompts and simple posing so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands. My goal is to capture genuine connection rather than stiff poses. Let’s dance around, play silly little games to make each of you laugh, kiss on each other, just anything to keep you moving and engaged with each other.

What happens if it rains?

If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll simply reschedule. I do have a conservatory on my property that we can move our session into if it starts raining during our session, but if it’s a washout before the session we can make arrangements for another time.

If there is rain in the forecast I will watch it closely leading up to your session time and touch base with you before you head to our location for photos.

Can we bring champagne or props?

Absolutely! Champagne, picnic setups, flowers, vintage cars, or meaningful keepsakes can add personality and help tell your story.
